Georgia’s Not Just on My Mind

Music
Alas, winter break has come and gone. While I am excited to begin my second semester, I will inevitably miss parts of home. And, yes, Atlanta, Georgia will forever be my home, no matter what paperwork may say come August.   Turns out I'm not the only one with Georgia on my mind. Musicians have incorporated the peach state into their songs for years. After a bit of research, I've found some of my favorite lyrics.   As the self-proclaimed Hip-Hop Capital of the World, Atlanta unsurprisingly is mentioned in many rap songs, a few even primarily concerning the state: Welcome to Atlanta, where the playas play / And we ride on them things like every day. Dash) And if you got beef, I turn…

Confession: I love Ke$ha. I know, I know. She always acts like she’s drunk or hungover, her song lyrics can be questionable (i.e. “Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack”), and her music videos are just plain weird. Ke$ha’s smart, guys. She was an IB student who almost got a perfect SAT score. She was a “dork” in the marching band. But her dream wasn’t academic; she knew she wanted to be a musician, and she pursued her dream until she achieved it. I respect that. Does her artistic persona show us whom she truly is? She could just know that the crazy, daring party girl who will “go insane, go insane, throw some glitter, make it rain” will sell, just like Lady Gaga (who is…
